"I have found a solution to a problem as old as Eve." - Leona Chalmers
Menstrual cups have been around since the 1930s. Back then, Leona Chalmers designed a menstrual cup, similar to the cups we see today as a reusable alternative to pads. Back then though, menstruation was taboo so it was really hard to advertise for these products. Leona designed the menstrual cup out of natural rubber, but with the war there became a rubber shortage. From then, pads and tampons were the primary sanitary product women used, both designed by men. Don’t get me wrong, they’re fine solutions, but what happens if you have a busy lifestyle? Are you going to be changing a tampon every 4 hours (if you're lucky) and changing a pad because it feels like you’ve been wearing a wet diaper? We’ve designed a cup, for women, by women. We’ve listened and we’ve learned. You wanted a cup that didn’t stain, so we made it pink. But you also wanted a cup that allows you to see your flow, so it's tinted. A lot of you didn’t like fishing around for the stem and pinching yourself when you get a grip on it, and slip. We made a loop stem so this doesn’t happen. You also wanted more suction holes for extra security, but a soft enough material so it’s pliable. Women with light, medium and heavy flows have all tested our cup and love it. They designed it for you, so you’re not inconvenienced every time you have your period.Â
